Dude! That's So Random!

Dude! There's a difference between randomness and sloppiness. Dude! Don't get those confused.

I mean, wearing those Daffy Duck boxers your kids got you for Fathers Day under your tux ---- that's random. Leaving those same dirty boxers on the bathroom floor for your wife to pic up ---- Dude! that's sloppy.

Same thing in the scrapbook.

In this page, putting the interior pix in a scatter pattern, having the stitched house exterior pic overlap, having the same basic pose of the kids side by side three times, and a trimmed picture of the street sign ---- that's sort of random and unexpected.

But don't let something like this be an excuse for not thinking through what you want on the page or being unintentional about how things are placed. That's just sloppy.

So being random can be good. Being sloppy is just bad form.

And one more thing ---- Dude! Pick up your underwear off the bathroom floor!

Dude! Pull Over!

Dude! You know you love a good road trip. When you scrapbook it pull over to make sure you really see what you're doing.

We stopped at Scotts Bluff for a break along the highway so it made sense to have a road trip themed page.

Of course, Soctts Bluff was like a highway sign on the Oregon Trail so all those highway signs and a postcard about sending memories back home has meaning beyond why we stopped there, too.

Dude! Make people pull over and think!

Dude! Layer Up!

Dude! With fall coming you'll need to layer up to keep warm in the cooler weather. Dude! That goes for scrapbooking, too.

I mean, scrapbooking is all about layering stuff in sensible ways. But sometimes you need to throw in something that just doesn't make sense.

When you have something big, like this brochure pic from Bryce Canyon, you need to keep the whole things for photo integrity. But you don't need to have a totally unobstructed shot. Though layering the medallion and ranger pic on it doesn't make a lot so photographic sense, the colors and spacing works to preserve the memories over the photos.

Dude! Keep those memories warm!

Dude! Watch your Kids!

Dude! I know you have lots of summer pix of your kids and you want to scrapbook those memories. Dude! Watch what pix you use!

The girls will use different pix than you will. In their pix, the kids will be dressed neatly, smiling, or doing something cute or sentimental.

Being the man, though, your pix will show them being dirty or wet, doing something adventurous (what she calls dangerous), or messing with each other. If she says, "WHY did you use THAT pic?!?!" when she points at your favorite shot then you've done your job.

Dude! Dads Rock!
